This is the first year for the Coalville Triathlon and we are running the event to encourage people to take on the challenge of this great sport.
You can enter the event as an individual and complete all three disciplines over the standard or shorter distance, or as a relay team with friends or colleagues.
What is Triathlon?
Triathlon is a multi-discipline event where people compete against the clock and each other. Swimming, cycling and running with no break except for the transition (this is a quick pit stop to change for the next discipline).
Information for beginners
The event is aimed at beginners and we expect most of the field will be taking on their first triathlon. All you need is a swimming costume or trunks, goggles (not compulsory), a bike (road or mountain bike as long as it is in roadworthy condition),a cycle helmet (compulsory) and a pair of trainers.
So go on give it a tri? You will be given full instructions before the event and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch, by email or social media.
The individual triathlon
This is open to anyone over the age of 15 (on 31/12/20). You must complete all three disciplines with no outside assistance. Your time will be taken from when you start the swim to when you finish the run.
The Junior triathlon
This is open to anyone aged 8-15 (on 31/12/20). This will be all on the field next to the leisure centre and totally traffic free. It is all about taking part, if you need to rest, stop at any point during the event, you can, we just want the younger athletes to get around and take part whatever their ability. Full, understandable, instructions will be given on the day and the juniors will be in view for most of the event making it great for family members and spectators.
The relay triathlon
Each member of the team completes one discipline.
The first member swims the 400m or 200m depending which event you have entered and runs out to tag the cyclist who then continues on the 20K or 10K bike, on their return the cyclist tags the runner who goes on to complete the run to finish the event.
The swim - 400m / 200m
To start the event you need to swim either 8 or 16 lengths of the heated swimming pool (any stroke is fine) and then you make your way to the transition area and prepare for the bike ride.
The bike - 1 lap 10K / 2 laps 20K
After completing the swim you will then jump on your bike for 10K or 20K around the local country lanes. The route is hilly in places so please pace yourselves accordingly.
Run - 1 lap 2.5K / 2 laps 5K
Once the bike has been completed you then return to transition for the run, this is 5K around the surrounding paths and includes some off road sections.
We are always in need of marshals on the course so if there are any partners or friends out there that are willing to help please get in touch with us and you will be rewarded with a Free entry to an event of your choice (this can be transferred to another person) goody bag and t-shirt. Email Jo -
The centre has ample toilets, full changing facilities and showers. You will also be able to purchase light refreshments at the event.
Start times (between 8am and 11am)
Your exact start time will be determined by the swim time on your entry form. Please be as accurate as possible so that you will be swimming with people of similar ability with faster competitors setting off later in the day.
